It's why I'll always fight for small, local, and worker-owned businesses over corporate interests looking to extract value from our neighborhoods.</p><p>When the pandemic hit, I didn't wait for institutions to act. I mobilized alongside my community: organizing food fridges, setting up vaccine clinics, and rallying support for small businesses on the brink of collapse. That experience confirmed what I already believed: survival and progress are always collective. It's the same principle behind my support for a public People's Center in District 2 and participatory budgeting that puts real power over public spending directly in residents' hands, not developers, not lobbyists, but the people who actually live here.</p>

<p>Housing is a human right, not a commodity that our neighbors get priced out of, and Trần believes no one should be forced out of the community they've spent a lifetime building. She'll fight for stronger tenant protections that prevent unnecessary evictions and hold predatory landlords accountable, keeping housing affordable for long-time residents, especially seniors on fixed incomes and disabled residents who face the fewest options. She'll preserve and expand accessible and affordable housing, including mixed-income housing, support options like ADUs, co-housing, and mixed-use development that keep people close to jobs and community, and open real pathways to homeownership, including an income-based buyers program, so renters finally get the chance to own here. Beyond affordability, Trần believes in placekeeping: protecting our community's character through community land trusts, legacy business programs, anti-displacement programs, and community benefit agreements that keep growth accountable to the people who've been here all along, with real inclusive planning where residents, not outside developers, shape how growth happens, so investment serves both long-time residents and new neighbors and strengthens the identity of Far Southwest Denver instead of erasing it.</p>

<p>Small, family-owned restaurants, corner shops, and immigrant-, women-, and minority-owned businesses are the heart of Far Southwest Denver, and Trần believes the wealth they create should stay rooted in our community, supporting the neighbors who built it here. As a small business owner herself for more than 20 years, she knows what it takes to survive in this economy, and she'll fight for better access to city resources, affordable capital, technical assistance, equitable contracting, and simplified permitting and licensing, with intentional support for immigrant-, women-, and minority-owned businesses. She'll also champion home-based businesses, mobile vendors, pop-ups, and local markets that make entrepreneurship accessible to people who could never afford a storefront, and she'll invest in business incubators, shared workspaces, neighborhood organizations, and commercial districts, along with commercial stabilization grants, so local entrepreneurs have the resources, mentorship, and support they need to start, grow, and thrive right here in the neighborhoods they call home.</p>

My parents were some of the fortunate ones who survived.</p><p>They arrived in the U.S. at a temporary tent city built to process the wave of refugees, and were sponsored by a family in Minnesota through the federal resettlement program. Ordinary people, who didn't know my parents but welcomed them anyway, gave them food, clothing, job training, and dignity. That generosity changed the course of our family's story. It's also where I learned the lesson that has shaped everything I believe since: when public systems and communities show up for people, lives are transformed. Not charity. Not luck. Investment, and solidarity.</p><p>My parents met in Minnesota at 17 and 19, teenagers carrying unimaginable trauma. With the help of community, my dad trained as a machinery repairman and my mom became a seamstress. My dad later found work in Denver at Bar-S Foods, and through the resettlement network, my parents secured public housing in Sun Valley Homes, where I was born. Public housing didn't just give my family shelter. It gave us a foundation to build from. They worked long hours, stretched every dollar, and moved our family into the apartments above the old Federal Theater. Years later, through grit and sacrifice, they did what once seemed impossible: they bought their own home. Watching my parents work themselves to exhaustion is why I know in my bones that working families deserve more support than this city has ever given them. Public investment isn't a handout. It's the difference between a family surviving and a family building a future. Housing, healthcare, and childcare shouldn't be things people have to fight for on their own. They should be guaranteed.</p>

Because my parents were still learning English, I served as their interpreter at doctors' offices, schools, and government agencies. By 15, the weight of it caught up with me, and I found myself couch-hopping, relying on the kindness of friends, their parents, and school counselors. Community caught me when other systems around me didn't. </p><p>Around that time, I met Josh. We were 15 and 17 when we became teen parents, and his family took me in as one of their own. Josh and I built our life together from almost nothing, working multiple jobs and leaning on community the same way my parents once had to. We know firsthand what it means to be a working family in this city: childcare that costs more than rent, the impossible choice between a doctor's visit and groceries, the exhaustion of building stability with so little safety net. That's why supporting working families isn't an abstract policy position for me. It's Josh's story and mine, and it's why caregiving, youth support, and housing stability sit at the center of everything I'm fighting for in District 2.</p>

For too many years, investment and attention flowed to other parts of Denver while our infrastructure went unrepaired, our small businesses went unsupported, our public transit and mobility were neglected, and our neighbors were left without the resources they needed to get by. This isn't the story of a district that lacks pride, resilience, or potential, quite the opposite. It's the story of a district that has always shown up for itself, even when the leadership meant to represent us didn't, passed over again and again while other neighborhoods got the resources and attention. Trần isn't asking for anything extreme. She's simply asking for what every neighborhood in this city already has: real investment, real care, and a City Hall that finally shows up for its people. District 2 deserves better, not as a favor, but as basic recognition of a community that has carried itself with resilience for decades, often without the representation to match. This is a fight to meet our district's most basic needs, and it's what fighting for us looks like</p>

Years later — through grit, persistence, and sacrifice — they did what once seemed impossible: they bought their own home, just 15 minutes north of Denver.</p><p>That’s the foundation I come from — a family who risked everything for freedom, and a community that caught us when we fell.</p><p>My childhood was shaped by responsibility. Because my parents were still learning English and navigating this new country, I often served as their interpreter — at doctors’ offices, schools, and government agencies — all while struggling to learn English myself.</p><p>At school, I longed to be like my friends — the “all-American kid” who went to the mall, had sleepovers, and stayed out late. But at home, I was Vietnamese — the eldest daughter, the cultural bridge, the one who helped my parents navigate a country that didn’t always welcome them. I lived in the in-between, belonging fully to neither world: not entirely Asian, yet not fully American.</p><p>By 15, the weight of those responsibilities caught up with me. I found myself on my own — couch-hopping and relying on the kindness of friends, their parents, and school counselors. Once again, community stepped in to catch me when I was falling.</p><p>It was around that time I met Josh. We were just kids — 15 and 17 — when we became teen parents. Josh and his family took me in as one of their own, and together we built a new life. It wasn’t easy. But love and community changed the trajectory of my story.</p><p>Today, as an adult, I walk alongside my parents on our shared journey of healing. Together, we are learning to carry our traumas with grace, to turn pain into strength, and to transform struggle into connection. Our healing isn’t perfect, but it is powerful — a reminder that love, resilience, and community can rebuild what once felt broken.</p><p>When I share this story, I don’t share it for sympathy. I share it to show the transformative power of community and advocacy.</p><p><strong>Community gave my parents a chance at survival.<br>Community lifted me through my hardest years.<br>Community helped us raise our family, grow our small businesses, and nurture others along the way.</strong></p><p>And community is the reason I have the courage to stand before you today.</p><p>But my courage doesn’t come from community alone. It also comes from my parents. Watching them leave everything behind, risk their lives at sea, and rebuild from nothing gave me a blueprint for bravery. Their sacrifices taught me that even when the odds are against you, even when the seas are rough, hope is worth fighting for.</p><p>Their bravery is my inheritance. Their strength is my foundation. And because of them — and because of community — I have the courage to stand here now: ready to lead, ready to serve, and ready to advocate for a stronger, more inclusive Denver.</p><p>Over the last 25+ years, I’ve worn many hats: mother, wife, sister, friend, small business owner, creative, daughter of Vietnamese refugees — and now, community advocate and public servant. Each of these roles has shaped who I am:</p><p><strong>As a daughter of refugees</strong>, I learned that opportunities aren’t handed to us — they are built with grit, resilience, hope, and community.</p><p><strong>As a mother</strong>, I think about the city my children will inherit and the community they will grow into.</p><p><strong>As a wife</strong>, I dream with Josh about a future where families like ours can stay rooted, thrive, and grow old together.</p><p><strong>As a business owner</strong>, I learned the importance of investing in people and creating spaces where everyone belongs.</p><p><strong>As a creative</strong>, I learned to imagine what doesn’t exist yet — and to see possibilities where others see barriers.</p><p><strong>As a reproductive rights advocate,</strong> I know that belonging also means the freedom to make decisions about our own bodies, and access to care that supports healthy families and thriving communities.</p><p><strong>As a community advocate and public servant</strong>, I’ve built programs and strategies that ensure historically excluded voices are heard, uplifted, and centered in decision-making. I’ve seen where our systems work and where they fall short. They were places where belonging was as essential as business, and where equity, justice, and community care were quietly and steadily woven into everyday life.</p><p>When crisis struck during the pandemic, I didn’t wait for institutions to act — I mobilized alongside my community. Together, we organized food fridges to feed hungry families, set up vaccine clinics for essential workers, and rallied support for immigrant-, refugee-, and minority-owned businesses on the brink of collapse. These weren’t acts of charity — they were acts of solidarity, advocacy, and connection, reminding us that survival and progress are always collective.</p><p>Today, I serve as Deputy Director of Community Outreach for the City of Denver, bringing nearly three years of hands-on experience inside City Hall. In this role, I build multilingual, culturally responsive engagement strategies to ensure historically excluded voices are heard, respected, and reflected in city decision-making. Because I understand how city government works from the inside, I am uniquely prepared to lead City Council District 2—navigating systems effectively, advocating strategically, and turning community priorities into action.</p><p>I also serve on the Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains Board and the Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs, where I advocate for reproductive justice, cultural equity, and inclusive public policy. Together, my experience, values, and commitment to public service equip me to help our neighborhoods grow stronger and thrive.</p><p>If elected, I would become the first Asian American and first-generation Vietnamese American to hold a seat on Denver City Council. But representation alone is not enough.</p><p>My vision is bigger: to remake the very table of power. To ensure that working families, immigrants, refugees, youth, seniors, people of color, LGBTQ+ neighbors, and every community too often pushed to the margins are not only included — but truly centered — in shaping Denver’s future.</p><p>My campaign is about building a city where no one feels invisible; where housing is stable and affordable, small businesses thrive, culture is honored, and every neighborhood — from Mar Lee to Harvey Park, from Bear Valley to Fort Logan — feels connected to the decisions made at City Hall.</p><p>For me, public service is not a career move. It is a calling. It is the continuation of the courage my parents carried across the ocean, the resilience I cultivated as a young mother, and the love I pour every day into my family, my neighbors, and my city.</p><p>Denver’s District 2 doesn’t just deserve a representative. It deserves a leader who knows firsthand what it means to struggle, to organize, to build, and to belong — and who will fight to make sure everyone has a seat at the table.</p>

A holistic approach means investment in community-based violence prevention, STAR expansion and other alternative emergency response teams, restorative justice programs, and improvements to pedestrian walkways, street lighting, and neighborhood infrastructure along corridors like Federal, Sheridan, and Jewell, alongside expanded mental health crisis response and recreational spaces for youth and families, so support arrives before a crisis does. The data has shown over and over again that safety grows in well-resourced communities, not over-policed ones. As councilmember, Trần will strengthen partnerships between residents, city agencies, and public safety professionals, ensuring community voices shape what safety and accountability look like here, because when we protect people's basic needs and uphold their dignity, everyone is safer.</p>

<h2>Honoring the Past. Building the Future.</h2><p>If elected, I would become the first Asian American and first-generation Vietnamese American to hold a seat on Denver City Council. But representation alone isn't the goal. My vision is to remake who holds power at the table, so that the communities too often pushed to the margins aren't just included, but centered, in shaping Denver's future.</p><p>My campaign is about building a city where no one feels invisible: where housing is a right, small businesses thrive without fear of displacement, caregiving is treated as public infrastructure, safety comes from investment and prevention rather than criminalization, and every neighborhood, from Mar Lee to Harvey Park, from Bear Valley to Fort Logan, finally gets its fair share.</p><p>For me, this is personal. It's the continuation of the courage my parents carried across the ocean, the resilience Josh and I built raising our family together, and the belief that a community, and a city, is strongest when it takes care of everyone in it. District 2 deserves a leader who knows firsthand what it means to struggle, to organize, and to build power collectively.</p><h5>I am rooted in community, ready for change. Together, we will build bridges, create belonging, and shape a Denver that finally works for all of us.</h5>

<p>Far Southwest Denver has long been under-invested in basic infrastructure, from sidewalks and street lighting to transit access and pedestrian safety, while other districts got the buses, the bike lanes, and the beautiful parks, and Trần believes everyone deserves to move through their own neighborhood safely, affordably, and with dignity. She'll push for smart, equitable infrastructure investments that close these long-standing gaps: improved bus reliability and more frequent service along corridors like Federal, Sheridan, and Wadsworth wherever the city has the authority to act, safer streets for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, ADA-accessible sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and traffic calming that lets kids walk to school and seniors and disabled residents move independently. Beyond transportation, she'll invest in the parks, libraries, community centers, and real "third spaces," the public places where neighbors actually gather, connect, and belong to each other, from pocket parks and community gardens to neighborhood plazas that don't require a big budget to make a big difference, along with local arts, cultural programming, and neighborhood events that celebrate the traditions and diversity of our community. She'll fight for another recreation center in District 2, so residents here have the same access to programs, pools, and gathering space that other neighborhoods already enjoy. And she'll fight for healthy, safe neighborhoods: protecting and expanding tree canopy and green space, improving air quality, and addressing the environmental inequities and air pollution District 2 has carried for too long, so this district is not only easier to navigate, but a more vibrant place to live.</p>

A City Built for Everyone

<p>Care is essential infrastructure, not a private burden, and Trần knows that firsthand as a mother of four who's lived the impossible math of childcare costs, work schedules, and daily worry every working parent carries. For young families, she'll partner with the Denver Office of Children's Affairs, the Denver Early Childhood Council, and Clayton Early Learning to expand affordable childcare, cut waitlists, and help parents navigate subsidies. For our youth, she'll grow mentorship, after-school and summer programming, workforce partnerships, and paid internships and apprenticeships, while protecting the parks, libraries, and recreation centers young people rely on. For our elders, she'll fight for dignity and real, quality care, and for every household, a single point of contact connecting them to mental health resources, disability supports, and food security through partners like Commún Denver, Kaizen Food Share, Southwest Food Coalition, and a nonprofit grocery model like Montbello's FreshLo Hub, delivered in the languages our neighbors speak at home. Because care and economic security go hand in hand, Trần will also fight for livable-wage jobs, worker-owned cooperatives, strong unions and fair contracts, and fair treatment for gig workers wherever the city has authority to act, standing firmly with District 2's immigrant communities so every resident, at every stage of life, has a real voice here.</p>

<p>For too long, District 2 has waited for the kind of investment other parts of Denver take for granted, and Trần believes it's time for that to change. Her flagship proposal is the Far Southwest Neighborhood Center, a public hub run by the City of Denver offering housing assistance, healthcare, food programs, benefits navigation, small business support, and language-accessible services all in one place, along with property tax relief for older adults on fixed incomes, bringing these resources directly to Far Southwest Denver so no one has to travel across town or navigate a maze of city departments alone. Because residents know their community best, Trần will also fight for participatory budgeting, so neighbors, not just those with the loudest voices or the deepest pockets, help decide how public dollars are spent.</p>

Investing in District 2

<p><span style="color: var(--color-text); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text);">District 2 deserves a City Councilmember who has actually lived what our neighborhoods live. Someone who believes meeting our community's basic needs, housing, healthcare, safety, and care, isn't optional, and who knows how to turn that belief into real policy inside City Hall, and will fight to make sure it's delivered.</span></p>

<p><strong>Annual Community Spa Day</strong> at 14th &amp; Bannock, a full day of rest and pampering for our unhoused neighbors, with volunteers offering facials, foot scrubs, manicures, haircuts, massage, and music. People deserve dignity, care, and joy, no matter their circumstances. I was once unhoused myself and this is how I continue to show up for others — the way people once showed up for me. We're providing BASE COAT non-toxic mini manicures again this year. <p>Join me for an evening of good food and conversation in District 2.</p><p>On Saturday, July 25th, from 5–7 PM, Jade Cafe — a local, immigrant-owned small business in our district since 1988 — will be hosting me for a casual Dine-In &amp; Chat with owner Phu Nguyen, who'll share his journey building his family business in our community.</p><p>As a thank you, Jade Cafe will be offering complimentary appetizers and refreshments, plus 10% off dine-in and take out orders if you mention "Tran for Two."</p>

It's about recognizing that fairness starts with meeting people where they are."</h5><p>Far Southwest Denver has been left behind for decades. Crumbling streets, underfunded schools, neglected parks, while wealth and investment kept flowing to wealthier parts of the city. Trần doesn't see this as bad luck. She sees it as the result of a system that lets developers and corporate interests set the agenda instead of working people. As a council member, she'll use her seat to push power and public dollars back toward the community. This isn't charity. It's justice.</p><p>Her flagship proposal is the <span style="color: var(--color-text); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text);"><strong style="color: var(--color-text); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text);">Far Southwest Denver People's Center</strong></span>, a free public hub where residents can get housing help, benefits navigation, and language-accessible support all in one place. Healthcare and food shouldn't be things people have to buy their way into. The center will connect residents to primary care, mental health services, SNAP and WIC enrollment, and food distribution as public goods, not privileges. Seniors will have access to aging-in-place support and property tax relief. Youth will have free after-school programs, nutrition support, and workforce training. Small businesses, especially family-owned and worker-owned ones, will get grants and low-interest capital so they can compete with absentee investors instead of getting pushed out by them.</p><p>Trần will also fight to bring participatory budgeting to Denver, so residents decide how public money gets spent instead of developers and lobbyists deciding behind closed doors. Over the long term, she wants to expand public transit, invest in community centers, and put real protections in place against displacement, so the people who built this neighborhood aren't the ones pushed out of it.</p><p>For Trần, equity isn't a talking point. It's the reason she's running. As council member, she'll use every tool available to bring resources and real power back to working-class Far Southwest Denver, delivering what this community has been denied for generations.</p>
